Night Owl Reviews - PaulineMichael, of Chasing Victory

Chasing Victory

Chasing Victory

The Winters Sisters, #1

Joanne Jaytanie has hooked me with this first story in her paranormal suspense series and I cannot wait to read her next installment. Victory Winters is a truly capable woman, I couldn't help but admire her calm attitude and persistence. The fact that she was so very smart, too, could have made her feel unbelievable yet she comes across as truly authentic. Tristan Farraday is a hero truly worthy of the title, he is a well-rounded man with a fantastic balance of brawn and brain. He is an amazing presence and it is easy to see why Victory comes to trust him so quickly.
I loved the interesting premise of this story and how detailed the biotechnical information was without making me feel like I was back in my high school science class or too far over my head that I felt too overwhelmed. The supporting cast and characters are just as interesting as the lead couple and add an amazing depth without overshadowing Tristan or Victory. I cannot wait for most of them to get their very own adventures. I know that Victory's sister Payton's story is available now, and I cannot wait to read it. This is the first story I've read by this author but I am 100% positive it will not be the last.
Victory Winters thinks the worst has happened when she witnesses an old friend and colleague murdered, but then she finds herself kidnapped by a madman who forces her to perform DNA research and testing. Naval Special Ops officer Tristan Farraday and the rest of his team is on the case and he finds himself working to rescue the beautiful scientist and her family.

Book Blurb for Chasing Victory

Victory Winters possesses an unusual innate sense of communication, bordering on telepathic when relating to animals. She is a world-renowned geneticist, and based on these facts, she is kidnapped by Lawrence Braxton. Braxton is the madman CEO who runs Biotec, and forces Victory to pursue her research on canine DNA.
Naval officer Tristan Farraday is sent undercover to track Biotec's experiments.
These experiments involve the implantation of canine DNA into humans, thereby manipulating their genetic makeup. The goal of Biotec is to create the perfect soldier.
Murder, kidnapping, and blackmail follow as Tristan realizes Victory has been pulled into Biotec's world against her wishes. She refuses to divulge the genetic answers Braxton demands. Victory knows Biotec wants to exploit her findings, by administering them in a destructive manner. Will Tristan rescue Victory from this madman's grip and save her family? Can he keep her discoveries away from enemy hands?
This is the start to a series that needs to be read in order. Next book is "Payton's Pursuit".

Authors In Bloom Blog Hop

CONGRATULATIONS TO SHANNON R!!!
YOU ARE MY GIVEAWAY WINNER!!!

I know it’s difficult to believe but spring is just around the corner! Whether you love to putter in your garden, get by doing only the basics, or just relish the cookouts ~ you will still spend time outside. Here’s a tip that will make your time outdoors much more enjoyable.

Plant a few pots of Lemon Grass – also known as Mosquito Grass. Here are a few reasons why:

1) Lemon or Mosquito Grass contains more citronella than the Mosquito Plant. The strong citrus odor drives mosquitoes away.

2) The plant is beautiful and serves as a great patio plant.

3) Lemon Grass is used in the cooking of Oriental cuisine, adding a light lemony taste.

4) The Lemon Grass is a fast-growing clumping grass that is ideal for containers.

A perfect addition to any garden or patio. Pretty to look at, keeps the mosquitoes at bay, and is a wonderful cooking herb!

Excerpt:
Thirty-six hours later. Back in the U.S.
I halted my one-sided conversation with the foul cockroach wedged between the wall and the table and watched through half-closed eyes as Sergeant Tom Barnaby stepped into O'Neill's Bar and Grill. I reacted the same way when I stepped into the dimly lit bar. We both kept our backs against the door until our eyes adjusted. Barnaby walked toward me, loose-limbed, like he didn't have a care in the world.
I knew better. Years in law enforcement changed me, set me apart from everyone else. The average citizen couldn't imagine the atrocities we witnessed. We worked for different agencies, hunting down and arresting scum of the earth who lurked in the streets, businesses, and behind the doors of suburban homes.
When Barnaby reached the cracked, orange vinyl booth he shook his head at the mess left on the table from the previous patron.
“Jones,” Barnaby said, as he looked around the bar. “You couldn't have picked a classier place than this to meet?”
I didn't comment, just acknowledged him with a nod, and motioned for him to sit. Without a word, Barnaby sat down, grabbed a grease-stained napkin, brushed the large, winged bug off the table and stomped on it.
For the last hour, the roach’s large antennas moved from side-to-side and back-and-forth when I spoke nonsense to him. I hadn't gotten that much single-minded attention in days. Now, my short-lived friend was bug-guts on the bar floor.

Bio:
Sharon Kleve was born and raised in Washington and currently lives on the Olympic Peninsula with her husband.
Sharon is a multi-published author of paranormal and contemporary romance. She loves romance. She loves reading romance, living romance, and especially loves writing about romance. She gets no greater feeling than watching her characters come alive in each other's arms. Most of all, she loves giving her characters the happily ever after they deserve—with a few bumps and bruises along the way.
One of her favorite things to do is picking up a new book and sinking into the story, immersing herself in the emotions between the characters. She hopes to inspire her readers the same way her favorite authors have inspired her.
When not writing, she can usually be found either curled up in her recliner with her cat and a good book, or in the kitchen baking sourdough bread or bagels.
